I have always dreamed of doing illustration for package design, so when I was chosen to do the illustrations for Ivory's rebranding I was pretty much ecstatic. I'm still pinching myself as I see the new packaging arrive on the shelves. This is the first of 4 scents for soaps + body washes. I'll be posting the rest of them as I see them!

Going Tribal

I've been working on tribal inspired patterns the past few weeks. It's felt great to abandon the fine lines I usually use and get messy with the paintbrush. Here's a few. I'd love to see a couple of these on some sophisticated but funky dresses.

Khristian Howell has organized a wonderful charity auction for this week. Each day beginning Monday, December 5th - Friday, 9th a new batch of items will be up for bid. This past week i was working on an assignment that took me back to something I haven't focused on in my art in a very long time. Fashion. I Loved it! I had forgotten how much my work was originally motivated by all things feminine. I think it's time I revisit this theme and see what happens. I've made a few palette cleansers to get myself started.

One of my greatest sources of inspiration year after year are Marimekko's vibrant, graphic prints. Their use of color and pattern is always fresh, bold, and surprising. To just look at their products fills me with awe and makes me want to be a better designer. I've been thinking a lot about my trip to Antartica lately, especially with the temps what they've been.
I'm fascinated by this continent and read and watch everything I can on this treacherous, luminous, awe-inspiring land. It's inspired me to look back through my photo's at one of my favorite parts of the journey -
the Stunning ice sculptures. They rise up from the water in every direction refracting sunlight and creating sublime views. We were able to take our zodiacs to tour through mazes of these sculptures, sometimes majestic, sometimes slowly melting away and disappearing into the sea. As an artist interested in the details of things, I was especially enthralled when we were able to get up close enough to see the details - striations, dips, seemingly chiseled masses of ice/snow + drips falling from the underbelly's as they melted in the sun.

Now that i'm seriously wanderlusting as I reflect on this trip, I can't help but share some incredible photo's of the wildlife tomorrow.

i'm an animal lover, to put it mildly. putting together this small collection of wood silhouettes, I began to see the true natures of these creatures through the curves of the wood.....majestic, gentle, unique, frisky, musical, serene.

this week i've been looking at a lot of pretty things to get my creative juices flowing as I start on new work. there's no shortage of things to be inspired by, but these are some of the things that i've been especially drawn to - striking wildlife installation, hand dipped baskets and gorgeous floor treatments as well as organic patterns on Angela Adams rugs, cardboard carpets by Wendy Plomp and colorful fabrics by Eley Kishimoto.

I saw Mike Mills film "Beginners" this weekend. I keep drifting off thinking about all the things I loved about it + his visual style of storytelling. He creates layers using subtitles, graphics and still photo's that capture time and weave the story together subtly revealing so much. Admiring his work as a graphic designer, I loved seeing his drawings. The ways he uses them to connect you to the emotional state of Ewan McGregor's character Oliver is sublime. I'm itching to see more in his new book.

Renegade was my first craft show and it did not disappoint! Kelly Moseley of Studio Anabel and I shared a booth. We had a great time and met many amazing vendors. I loved sharing my work, meeting new people + seeing the work of some of my etsy faves up close and personal. It was a fun weekend in Austin!

I didn't manage to post along the way as I prepared for Renegade, so I'll do some catching up now. I've added new product to my uniquely handmade collection of paper goods. I like details and ornate motifs and often use them in my art. Taking a few that I've designed, I had stamps made. I wanted to contrast the delicate, busy designs with the simplicity of a plain kraft moleskine. It's a stretch for me not to use lots of color, but it felt just right on these.

a detailed print made simple with these notecards. For these, I created a stamp from one of my favorite prints "Poppy". Once a piece of wall art, now a friendly hello!

There's the all time sx thrill that comes when you discover a new band you Love. Holding strong as one of my most memorable shows is seeing Fanfarlo at Central Presbyterian a few years ago.

Saturday's Pop-up shop was a blast. West Elm was buzzing with great vibes and
loads of incredible art and food. It was a joy to meet new people, share my work
with them and see what they responded to. I was especially happy to sell some
of my favorites. There's always those pieces dear to your heart and when someone
wants one for their home it's a special honor. It was an incredibly cool and well put
together event by collaborators West Elm, Etsy and Abby Powell of Abby Try Again .
Very impressive and very fun. I think they must do more!!! Austin seemed to love it.

What a hectic week with work and preparing for Saturday's pop up event. I looked at

my wall this afternoon and all i could think was, chaos. Beautiful Chaos. my wall
epitomizes all the layers of ideas i have for new work, goals, disappointments, ah, yes
that fabric I never managed to get printed for this weekend.....accomplishments....it's all there, inspiring me on everyday.

I've wanted to use Plywerk for a few years. Ever since I started my graffiti wood art

series, I imagined them mounted on their beautious pieces of bamboo. I took a shot
at mounting this one myself. Not so easy......but I didn't expect it to be. I had a tiny
mishap on the top so I won't be able to sell it, but I will be able to justify keeping it for
myself! I think with a little practice I can get the swing of it. Despite its imperfection,
it makes for a pretty 6x6 piece of art.

I've spent the last few days hard at work on a new Blurb portfolio. It's full of

vibrant colors and pattern, some editorial work and prints I'd love to see as

textiles. I enjoy taking my latest work and mixing it with older pieces to see how

they compliment and play off each other. Blurb makes these books an especially

afternoon walks around the lake remind me of why i moved to Austin. I'm a city girl,
but there's something to be said for a spontaneous walk along a dirt path. The trees
here never cease to astonish me. They're especially stunning right now in their
barren form.

a perfect mini retreat. and a bonus, the turtles were out napping on the tree branches!

Beautiful new trims I've added to my collection. I'm not sure how I'm going to use
them yet. I think mostly for textures in my art, but who knows! Clearly I was in an
earthy mood at the trim shop this day.
